ART & THE YORK.
Celebrated local Western Australian artist, John Feeney’s association with owner,
John Hay goes back some time. John was so impressed with artist Feeney’s
talents
and ability to capture historically significant moments like the early European settlement
of the York area and interaction of missionaries with the local Aborigines, he set John
up in a studio within what is now the old York Primary School Conference Centre
and commissioned him to paint not only specific aspects of early York but to also paint
a series of original oils.
The result is a chronological celebration of York’s early history that can be viewed
on the walls of The York’s Meeting
Room.
The Arts are an important part of life in York and The York embraces the development
of local talent and is an ardent supporter of the burgeoning art and crafts industry,
which has become part of the town’s charm and appeal.
